Happy September loves! It’s already mid-month and we really had to put up a post. This is one of the longest post we have ever written since we started blogging, so just grab a cup of tea, milk, water or whatever drink.. Haha.We have never never had a walk at Karura ever. Doreen only goes to Karura when she has meetings and parties at the River Cafe (a cafe inside the forest) but has never taken a walk in the forest. Maureen on the other hand has never even attempted
to visit the forest. This is the reason as to why we decided to take up the challenge and explore the forest for the whole day.
The whole idea about Karura was brought up by our bestie called Milda (you will see her in the subsequent pictures), and we were so up for it. Milda was our tour guide because she has been there a couple of times. It was on a Sunday and the forest was jam packed like crazy!! Hehe.. Quick advice to anyone who wants to explore the forest, do not dare go on a weekend, we will tell you why. Our main reason for exploring the forest was to bike in the wild as we look at the scenery. So, we arrived at the forest at around 1pm. Headed out of the car and we were so excited when we saw the bikes, you could have seen our faces.
So we got glammed up in our gym wear and looked all sporty ready to roll. Doreen was taking the lead ready to pay for the bikes. She was all smiles as she was about to pay until the cashier said that the bikes are over and we have to waif for two hours…like seriously????? Our moods changed in a snap! Like, we came to the forest to bike and now there are no bikes?! So apparently the bikes that we were seeing were damaged. This was way too unbelievable.. So, Milda (our bestie) decided come on guys we will just take a walk in the forest. So we agreed and began walking.
We saw monkeys, the rivers and the beautiful forest, truly nature is amazing. The scenery even made us forget the fact that we had no bikes. All this time as we were busy admiring God’s creation, w had not even looked at the time, only to realise that it was 6pm! So we started exiting the forest quickly before darkness crawled. By 6.30pm, we were already out of the forest and headed home. Worn out was the word, no one talked to each other on our way back. It was a great way to spend the weekend and we definitely have to go back again, this time around on a weekday, and when biking.
If you if you want to enjoy the forest even more go on a weekday since people aren’t many and you will have access to the functional bikes. Second tip, be early, the earlier the better, since there is so much to be explored and you will literally need the whole day to explore. Third tip, if you have a car, carry your own bikes since you will bike with them for free, at least you will save KES 500 (for bike hire). The only thing you will pay for is the forest entrance fee which is only KES 100 (what a bargain)!
